I have four “cameras” (my trusty Canon DSLR, the “newer” Sony Mirrorless, a Sony P&S (that fits in my pants pocket) and, of course, like everyone else, my cell phone). All of them have the now (pretty much) standard LCD screen that you can’t see a frigging thing on when you are outdoors in bright sunlight.
The first two do have a separate eye viewfinder but I’ve been leaving the DSLR home since its way heavier and slower focusing than the Sony Mirrorless. On the other hand, the Sony Mirrorless went AWOL (not exactly true since I knowingly lent it to Elyse to take home with her – due to her enjoying shooting pictures so much with me when she was out here a month or so ago).
This then has left me with the Sony P&S today to shoot pics of Lailah – I shot a lot of them not even bothering to see what was being displayed on the LCD screen since the sunlight just washed it out. Out of taking around ~120 pics, I came up with thirty pretty good and/or very good shots. Not bad, when you consider, all I was doing was aiming the lens in her direction and pressing the button – not even trying to “compose”. I remember when I was in my late teens and twenties, when I would spend a minute or three (with each shot) with composition, focusing, exposure, etc. My, the once mighty amateur photog has fallen and has joined the masses…now just where did I put my Polaroid SX70??
[besides, what little girl (or boy) is going to wait around while you spend twenty seconds doing all that stuff (composing, focusing, setting the exposure)??, certainly not a ~3-1/2 yr old who goes by the name of Lailah L. !!]
