Well, I finished season one of (Amazon’s tv series) “Transparent”. I thought the first few episodes were visually choppy – camera was going off in all directions – maybe that was only in the first episode…but it was very distracting at first.
The story seems a bit more complicated than needed – with them going into more about how messed up each of the three children’s lives are (as adults) than Jeffrey Tambor’s character. To me, it seemed, at first, the focus really wasn’t on his character as much as it could/should have been.
It got a bit better in the middle and more towards the last few episodes, sometimes showing what it was like in the 90s and really, really having to hide his (true self). The scenes with Bradford Whitney (Josh/West Wing), were funny and eye opening, as well. Judith Light, as Jeffrey Tambor’s ex-wife is a hoot.
Not exactly my usual type of tv show – I think I enjoyed “Grace and Frankie” a bit more (with regard to enlightening the world about LGBT themes/issues, finally “coming out” very late in your adult life, etc.)
Second season coming out soon (if I remember correctly), will see if it gets any better. Jeffrey T. does a pretty good job (he’s always been a fav of mine), but not sure if his acting was really Emmy award winning or not.
In truth, a little disappointed (based on the series’ hype).
