Lailah – Soccer Practice – 2

For what it's worth, I'm awfully proud of Lailah (at just 3 years & 4 months), for getting out on the field today for the second time, with a bunch (5-6?) of boys (she was the only girl again today), with mom, dad, gramma, and two granpas, all shouting at her: "Go Lailah", "Kick it", "YEA, Lailah", and "Run!" She is such an amazing young girl, and growing up so fast. Best. Soccer. Player. … [Read more...]

Movie Reviews

ok, since it's raining cats and dogs outside; tonight apparently is movie review night. I've been somewhat lax with sharing some of the "great" movies I've recently seen. For good reason, since there is only one I saw at the "movies" (last week) and two were recent iTunes rentals. Let's do the easiest and most current movie first. "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation". If you liked any of the … [Read more...]

Lailah – Soccer Practice – 1

Lailah has her second soccer practice this morning. Trying to decide whether to take the P&S camera (which I used at her first practice), or the DSLR (disadvantage:quite heavier, advantage:probably better pics). Then, shooting pics or should it be video this time? The complex decisions one has to make at 8 am on a Saturday morning. Missing my Sony Mirrorless ( Elyse Koerber ). Just kidding. … [Read more...]

Unexpected Delights

Life is somewhat awesome when you go into the freezer, hungry, looking for something to eat, and UNEXPECTEDLY find a container of mint chocolate ice cream sitting in the back, having totally forgotten it was there - hidden by so-called "better for you" other foods, like <can't think of anything right now since I don't ever buy that stuff>, I think the carton was hidden by the frozen stacks of … [Read more...]

Littering in the wild

Littering in the wild (opens in a new window) Wow, who the heck would do this type of stuff - I learned about "littering" in grade school, this reminds me of the dad and teenagers who were caught defacing / vandalizing park property by scratching their names on some sign (or railing) in a park. If you're going to visit a park, take your crap with you when you leave. [sorry, I'll get off my … [Read more...]

Lailah – musings

Have to write these thoughts down now as I just remembered them. Recent sayings from the baby girl. After shooting some pictures (either on the P&S or on the cell) while she is over at my place, she asks me: "Can you send these to my mum and dad, please?" Then, last night, I was over Jordan and Katie's, and it's starting to rain really hard, and for different reasons, both of them are … [Read more...]

Lailah – First soccer practice

Kinda behind on my postings - it was a busy weekend for me. But, not doing it tonight, other than to say I had Lailah this afternoon for a couple hours before Jordan arrived to take her to her very first soccer "practice". I got there about 15 mins late and it had just started to rain. She was such a little trooper - Jordan was on the ball by bringing a little girl (pink) rain slicker which she … [Read more...]

My website, viewing my SmugMug pics & a 3rd party plug-in

Beware: this is a long and boring technical blog posting - if you're into using wordpress for blogging and also do photo sharing on your wordpress website, you might be 5% interested in this post - otherwise, you'll probably just think this is just another loony tunes post by yours truly, and should probably skip reading it. wink emoticon About a year ago, I moved from using FLICKR to SmugMug as … [Read more...]

Judy Garland welcomes Barbar Streisand to her show

Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand (opens in a new window) Never saw this before, never saw an adult Judy Garland singing (that I remember). Never knew she had her own show - since this was in B&W, I would guess it was in the early '60s. The way she shows her love and affection for Barbra S. during the duet is simply amazing. Two amazing singers. … [Read more...]

Person vandalizing car dealership fatally shot by Police Officer – Justified?

Video of car dealership being vandalized (open in new window) I would like to hear opinions regarding this young adult vandalizing a car dealership. The video (from 3:00 thru 4:10) shows him jumping up and down on a car's windshield, finally busting it in such a way that he then rips the windshield right off, eventually sliding into the car, butt first. You then are able to see the tail lights … [Read more...]

Columbia House (Record/CD mail order) closing

Columbia House closing article (open in new window) This new brought back some good memories: First, of my buying classical CDs via Columbia House in the '90s, then, looking at the accompanying picture of the "8-track" tapes - had plenty of those in the '70s [not only did I have an 8-track stereo in my bedroom (growing up as a teenager), but I believe I might have had an 8-track player in my VW … [Read more...]

Black and White photos of Lailah

There is a reason why I don't edit my photos that I take. It takes a LOT of time and mental effort - there are just TOO MANY choices of things to do - like adding special effects, lighting, exposure, contrast, etc. If anything, I may - like I recently did for my recent b-day pics - just crop them. THAT I can easily do - no problem - no OCD choice issues there. However, I just heard about a … [Read more...]

Republican debate

I am trying to ignore this Fox News / Republican debate thing, but, doesn't anyone (on stage or behind the scenes), understand it'll be logistically impossible to have a "debate" among that many people on stage - get real - it's even tough when it's only 3 "debaters". Am I wrong, or are we really going to learn "something" from these ten people tonight (in order for "us" to make a judgement, and … [Read more...]

New photo frame for Lailah’s pictures

You know you have it bad, when you start thinking about ditching the 34" x 42" (butt ugly) framed Kadinsky print (which you've now have had for a dozen or so yrs) above the LR couch, and replacing it with a similar sized (42" or 46"?) flat panel tv (from the bedroom), thereby replacing the awfully smaller 15" photo frame on the end table, with the end result of being able to display a (new) almost … [Read more...]

Children and leashes

Kinda had an eye opening experience today. Met BFF Rick at MOA for lunch, etc. Afterwards, we were walking around the mall "shopping", and I saw a very young child 3-5 yrs old?) being held to their parent via a leash, and commented upon it to Rick. He informed me, that (many, many yrs ago) when his nephew was that age, his mom had to do the same thing since "B" was prone to behavior that may have … [Read more...]

Bird’s eye Video of Detroit and my thoughts

Great and interesting video - great background music - much too short. Bird's eye view of Detroit (opens in new window) Sorry to see the beginning parts: drives home the point that certain (industrial & residential) areas are still like a former war zone. Enjoyed the middle/ending portions a lot better with "hope" of development/revival coming. You don't usually get to see this stuff (from … [Read more...]

The Macarena

I'm sorry, but "Macarena" is still my all-time fav song & music video...just had to share this with everyone today - lol. YouTube music video (opens in a new window) [ok, maybe not my all "all-time" fav, but let's say my all-time fav from 1996.] … [Read more...]

Percussion video and my thoughts

https://www.facebook.com/lunkerville/videos/10152590836177653/ My observations. This is a huge group of percussionists for that age group. I don't think we had more than a couple of drummers at Wheat Elementary. Lots of percussion equipment - I dont think we had that much, even at the SR HS level. I'm glad this district has the money for these instruments, given the number of students wanting … [Read more...]

Kinky Boots in town

Went to the Orpheum Theater this afternoon to see the musical "Kinky Boots". Loved the absolutely hilarious movie a few yrs ago, and decided to see this - I'd forgotten the show was a musical, and thought it was just a play (silly me). Anyway, while it was just "ok" in the beginning, by the middle of the first act, and especially the second act, it just got better and better, with a great … [Read more...]
