bus ride home, new clothes

Six thirty, on the bus home, passing over the MN River (just South of MOA, just before the Eagan Outlet Mall), it’s darker than all heck out there, and it’s raining. Another 15 mins until the bus station. All is good. Except. I’d bought myself a few new dress shirts a couple weeks ago, wore one of them today. Definitely the wrong size. Glad I didn’t open the others, I can at least take those … [Read more...]

Facebook anniversary

Good lord! In a few weeks, I’ll have been on FaceBook for ten years. ENOUGH ALREADY! What the heck did we do before this stupid thing came into our lives? … [Read more...]

Rainstorm, umbrellas, etc.

Sometime last week (Wednesday?) we had a huge rainstorm as I was leaving the office. Fortunately, I had my umbrella in my backpack, no big deal, for the four city block walk to the bus stop. Except, it wasn’t just a rainstorm, it was also a windstorm, and by the time I got to the bus stop I was soaked, and in addition, the wind had broken my umbrella 💨🌬💨😱😱 Now a smart person would have gone and … [Read more...]

Half Price Books – sale

So, after leaving the state fair grounds this afternoon, I said to myself, “Self: we have a huge opportunity and if we do not take it, we’ll most likely regret it.” So, that’s how I ended up at Cosettas this afternoon, getting myself some take-out, after leaving the “Half Price Books” book sale. Since I’m not up in the downtown Saint Paul area as often as I was a few yrs ago when I was taking … [Read more...]

Random thoughts, state fair booksale, ServiceNow

Facebook asks, “What’s on your mind”, at 5:30am this morning? Insomnia - maybe. Acid reflux - nope, not this “morning”. Tinnitus - definitely a yep. Take your pick. My pal Rick went to the State Fair Grounds yesterday for “Half Price Books” book sale. All books were $2 or less. He picked up twelve books for $20. Guess I’m going to get my butt over there this morning and see if I can pick up a … [Read more...]

positive person, positive outlook

You know, I truly believe, for the most part, I try to be a positive person, in my personal life, as well as my professional life at work, and, with my blogging (yes, we all know I have a burr up my butt regarding one particular topic), but, in general, I believe I’m an optimistic, positive type of person. So, with that in mind, let me say this, if I don’t say it often enough: It’s a great time … [Read more...]

Going to see Holst’s Planets – NOT!

Had a pretty tough decision to make this past week. Couldn’t decide, so no decision was made. The quandary was, which night should I go see MN Orchestra, playing Holst’s Planets, Fri evening or Saturday evening? Didn’t want to “stay” at the office for 2-3 hours waiting until the 8pm performance, so after I left the office for home yesterday afternoon, I chose to let the decision default to … [Read more...]

Someone else’s post about M&Ms

Whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m … [Read more...]

Someone else’s post about sexual assaults – men vs. women

Read.this.now. ======== Guys ask why women are so pissed off. Even guys with wives and daughters. Jackson Katz, a prominent social researcher, illustrates why. He's done it with hundreds of audiences: "I draw a line down the middle of a chalkboard, sketching a male symbol on one side and a female symbol on the other. Then I ask just the men: What steps do you guys take, on a daily basis, to … [Read more...]

SMH – TN high school athletic director video about girls

From an article in USA Today. I just do not know what to say. Shaking my head. ==== Jared Hensley, the athletic director and assistant principal at Soddy-Daisy High near Chattanooga, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday afternoon, soon after he said girls "pretty much ruin everything' in a video he had made for the student body. In a Wednesday morning video address to students called "A … [Read more...]

TV Show – Black Mirror – Star Trek Episode

A few years ago I tried to watch the tv show “Black Mirror”. The first 2-3 episodes of the first season weren’t my cup of tea, and I moved on. At the time I think one or two of you out there suggested I keep watching, and/or recommended this show to me at some point. Its kinda like “Amazing Stories”, the Amblin Entertainment/Spielberg show from the ‘80s (which I was a fan of, way back then), with … [Read more...]

Reading glasses

Before my eye surgeries ~two yrs ago, I wore glasses for, let’s say, close to fifty years. Over those ~fifty yrs, I religiously cleaned them at least each and every morning using “glass cleaner”. I absolutely hated trying to see through smudged fingerprints, or a greasy film buildup. Now, having to just wear a pair of cheaters while reading, my OCDness has receded into the background, and I’m … [Read more...]

up early for no reason

Waking up at 5:30am on a dark Saturday morning for no reason just sucks. Going to try to fall back to sleep but I think it’s just wishful thinking. Need to get out the fall/winter blankets... … [Read more...]

Chapter Two – of the “novel”

Chapter Two. Two years ago, I wrote the first chapter of what was going to be my first book. I wrote it on the bus ride home from Beautiful Downtown Minneapolis to the Beautiful Suburb of Apple Valley. It took all of forty five minutes to write. Upon posting it as the beginnings of a serialized chapter book on the old blog, it was promptly forgotten about. Things got in the way. Life got in the … [Read more...]

TV show – “The First” – Sean Penn

Watching last episode of “The First”, staring Sean Penn. Its more drama revolving around the lives of the astronauts (before leaving the Earth to travel to Mars) than Sci-Fi, at least this first season is. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next season. For a long time, I didn’t like Mr. Penn, but with Mystic River, “I am Sam” (especially this one), and Milk, he’s grown on me. And I now … [Read more...]

Mom’s birthday, dad passing away 4 years ago

My mom would have been 94 today. Thinking of you today, Mom. My dad passed away four years ago, last week. Forgot to mention it. Thinking about you, Dad. I wish I could have been a better son than I was. Both of you help me become the person I am today, and for that, I’m truly grateful. … [Read more...]

My thoughts on President Obama vs. President Trump

I wrote this Blog post on Saturday morning. I’m posting it a second time now just in case it was lost in your feed over the weekend, etc. Two other things: first, it’s just another post of mine on the U. S. presidency, and secondly, it’s a bit on the long side (to say the least). Feel free to skip past, ignore, comment, hit the ‘delete’ button, etc. [my ‘stupid’ feelings will not be hurt, I … [Read more...]

Old status update regarding “Blockbuster”?

Here is a comment that someone posted to one of my status updates from 2010: “...at Blockbuster now, so you can guess what we'll be doing after we eat.” === What the heck is a “BlockBuster”?? Lol … [Read more...]

Misc thoughts on a Saturday nite

Boy, I’m in a “piss-poor” mood today...not sure why. Need to re-adjust my attitude (somewhat). Hmm, how do I go about to do that?? Pizza? Ice cream?? Might be time to head out and get me a Five-Guys burger...I just might in this stupid mood since I’ve been “starving” myself for the past day/week or so. Or, should I go get me some chipotle?? Huh. Decisions, decisions. I wonder if it has … [Read more...]
