Little Girl Activities
February 3, 2019 By Brian
As noted with my photos and video, I was able to spend time with the little girl, and her GranMaRose yesterday. Afterwards, we spent the evening playing games, drawing, etc., and Jordan (Lailah’s dad) drops by, to drop off Lailah’s little sister Ruby, for the girls to spend the night with GMR. Most of the evening, I played with Lailah, and GMR played with/watched Ruby. While I was watching Lailah draw at the kitchen table, Ruby comes over to scope us out and see what’s going on without her, and I scoop her up into my arms and held her in my arms, to let her see what Lailah’s doing, and we … [More...]
Photos by a professional of California’s fires
November 11, 2018 By Brian
If you want to see some pictures and video of what’s happening in California, search for “Peter DaSilva” on FB. He’s a professional photog, and while the subject is devastating, his pictures are, well, words escape me since you can’t call a photo of destruction “amazing”, or “beautiful” - not sure what word would be appropriate here. … [More...]
Listening to some good music while working on the hobby
November 17, 2018 By Brian
Been working at the project table for last couple of hours, listening to Pandora, on my “Scott Bradlee and Post Modern Jukebox” station. As you already probably know (but in case you didn’t), a Pandora station like this isn’t “all” music by that particular artist - a “station” just plays music of a similar genre, etc. So far, they not yet played a tune I didn’t like - just love this kind of music - toe tapping music all the way. Big band (Glenn Miller, etc.), Andrews Sisters, Big Voodoo Daddy, Brian Seltzer, Jazz, Swing, Bobby Darin, Frank S., Louis A., etc. And, it’s amazing, when I have … [More...]
Reading, and Wikipedia
May 24, 2020 By Brian
Wikipedia is my downfall. My interest in learning is my downfall. Case in point: I started to read the latest John Sandford murder mystery a few days ago. Usually his stories are based in and around the Twin Cities since that is where he’s from. This book, though, follows his protagonist to Washington, D.C. I get distracted by something the author mentions regarding D.C., and there I go, down the rabbit hole of Wikipedia - first, reading the article on D.C. itself, then an article on “Foggy Bottom”, then an article on “the pentagon”, etc. Finally, I get back to the book. And, again it … [More...]
NASA probe lands on Mars – Conspiracy theory???
November 26, 2018 By Brian
I live in a cocoon, my own little cocoon. Naively, I’ve lived in this cocoon thinking most people think like I do, that most people believe in Science with a Capital S. That most people do not believe the Conspiracy Theorists. The last 2-3 years have proven me vastly wrong in my view of the intelligence of people in these United States. [this is NOT a post about model railroading, nor is it about politics, it’s about NASA.] I’ve just became FB friends today with a guy who is a Model Railroader like me (in fact, he owns his own structure kit making business - creating kits for other model … [More...]
Memories of last few days at Unisys
June 15, 2016 By Brian
Can't believe it's been seven years. The day I wrote this, they (Mgmt) were saying I was going to be outsourced instead of laid off. A couple/few days later, I was laid off...after almost twenty nine yrs with Unisys (formerly Burroughs). ==== From June 15, 2009: "Inside sources say layoff date is this Thursday. TM and I negotiated "performance" SLA/KPIs for outsourcing contract today. He says outsourcing contract is almost finished & ready to be signed by "U" and "XYZ". Apparently the two "events" are unrelated" Original post … [More...]
Two or three (once again, profound) thoughts of the day.
January 7, 2018 By Brian
I’ve written ~6 long winded blog posts (including this particular one) since receiving my new typewriter style keyboard in the mail last week - all of which (including this one), have been typed via the glass iPad screen. Methinks I need to move the new typewriter keyboard to the end table of my couch/lazyboy. (life, sometimes, can be, so very hard, for me.) (man, was that a Christopher Walken sentence, or what??) I’m always amazed and quite a bit humbled to see the number of people who read my long(er) blog posts. One of my former HS teachers who I greatly respect, apparently reads my … [More...]
