Just not in the right mood to write today for some reason. But, let's try and see what I can come up with: Had a truly nice evening on Friday with Lailah (and her GranMaRose), first opening my b-day presents (play-doh "ice cream cone" making toy, and a nice photo collage frame that will hold 5-6 pics of Lailah, as well as a gift card to IHOP). For some reason, I think both the play-doh toy and … [Read more...]
BigB’s B-day dinner with Lailah
Had an awesome b-day dinner with Lailah (and her GMR) at the Mediterranean Cruise in Burnsville tonight. Some of you may know this place - there is live belly dancing. The belly dancer came over after a few dances and asked Lailah if she wanted to dance on the "stage" with her. To her credit, she got up and danced (three other girls a few yrs older than her, also were invited, so it was a pretty … [Read more...]
“What’s the best part about blogging?”
I stole the following from a fellow blogger, but it certainly applies here as well: People always ask me what the best part of blogging is and I say 'my followers!' Thanks everyone, for putting up with my ranting, my craziness, my political nonsense, as well as the postings of <mumble, mumble, thousands> of Lailah stories/photos/videos these last couple / few (OK, several) years. Thanks … [Read more...]
Rick’s birthday party at Nancy’s
Hello there. I see you're back with us now. It seems one of my recent stories has a following. I've written a couple of stories the last few days, and the one I thought that would have generated the most "likes" (because of the "hook" used, of Lailah dropping by, after stealing GMR's car) only received a couple of "likes". Whereas, the other story of my dinner with Rick and his friends received … [Read more...]
Paint nite
Photos of my completed art were just posted to an album, along with photos of two examples painted by our instructor (a very young woman, she must have been in her early to mid twenties - but, she really knew her stuff, knew how to teach painting, and also to make it fun for the "trainees"). Had a great time. This was my third paint nite - should do it more often … [Read more...]
Dinner with Nancy and Lois, before seeing South Pacific
Hi there. This is story #2 from this past Saturday night. Story #1 was my encounter with a stranger in the parking lot before dinner at "The old spaghetti factory". Once I figured out how to pay for parking (had to download an app) and actually paid it, I walked across the street to the restaurant. I was still a bit early, and this place has a huge lobby with lots of elegant seating, so I took … [Read more...]
Blogging about Lailah vs. re-watching “Better Call Saul”
Blogging about Lailah is so much better than re-watching S1 of "Better call Saul" (before moving onto S2). I'm pretty sure I left some good Lailah stuff out (with tonight's Lailah post) - that's what happens when you're an old fart and your brain has become cold pasta, and the Lailah encounter that you're trying to remember happened two days ago. Next time, I think, I'll use one of those fancy, … [Read more...]
More to blog about this weekend, but got Lailah tomorrow
Man, I've still at least 2 more (interesting) stories to go, and I've got Lailah to myself tomorrow - I'm never gonna to catch up with blogging the stuff that happened this past weekend. Have I mentioned what happened on Sunday?? Heaven! (How does that song go??) Doesn't matter - I was invited to go boating on Lake Minnetonka! What a great afternoon. With a great bunch of loving people. Will … [Read more...]
Saturday’s outing with Lailah
To set the stage: My kitchen breakfast nook area has a huge window looking out toward the walk leading to my front door. <you'all have probably seen it in my Lailah kitchen table videos.> I'm eating breakfast this past Saturday morning, reading my newspaper (on my e-device). And, I hear some giggling outside, which makes me look up. And, I see this little girl looking in my window, … [Read more...]
Seeing South Pacific in the evening after having Lailah that afternoon
Huh. Well. Starting from around 5:30pm Friday, thru 11pm tonight, it's been a whirlwind of "activity", in the life of Brian. You can tell with my lame opening of "Huh. Well.", that I'm just too dad-blame tired right now (midnight) to write all about what's transpired during this 30 hour period, since it would probably take me a couple of hours to do it, and Mr. Crabby didn't get to take a nap … [Read more...]
Blogging milestones as of 7/13/2016
Blogging Milestones: Created my WordPress blog in Nov/Dec, 2012. Received my first "comment" to one of my blog pages from an outsider (someone whom I didn't know) in Feb, 2014, inquiring about a Model Railroading book they were interested in. They apparently found my bog/website via a google search, looking for a specific (and rare) Model Railroad book - of which I had a duplicate copy and … [Read more...]
Website CSS changes – documented
This is a technical post regarding CSS changes made early on, when first creating this website in late 2012 and thru-out 2013. Top Image - Original CSS, Bottom Image - My tweaked CSS Basically, adding a black bar, with white text on each of the sidebar widgets, and making the background of the same area white, instead of fading into the gray background. Then, kind of reversing the main area, … [Read more...]
Apology (w/explanation) to my subscriber(s)
An apology is in order, along with an explanation. When I first created this blog, 3-1/2 yrs ago, I would only write and post a blog entry, on average, a couple of times a month, and would then manually copy that posting over to Facebook since this WP blog didn't have any actual readers. After leaving USPS in the fall of 2014, I stopped posting to this WP blog, and just started writing my blog … [Read more...]
Photography and Fireworks
The problem with shooting 280 fireworks photos (in the space of thirty minutes), is trying to figure out which are the "truly great" and which are only "good", the easy part will be throwing out the junky ones. Some of the "good" ones look "artsy-fartsy", and while I like them, i don't think others would agree. Going to try to review them and post only the top 10 percent - we'll see how that goes. … [Read more...]
A fav blogger of mine wants to give up…
One of my fav FB bloggers made a decision a week ago to take a break from writing, but then wrote the following post this morning. My South Carolina Life You might want to read her post first (to understand the context) before reading my comment to her: Susan, I had a friend over this morning, and while they were doing something in the kitchen, I got onto FB for a few mins, and noticed your … [Read more...]
Model Railroading and “Collecting”
So. Most all Model Railroader hobbyists are also "collectors". They (read: "we") either collect engines (locomotives), passenger cars, freight cars, or even things called "structure kits" (various types of buildings you put together). We usually do our collecting via eBay, or at the local model railroading flea markets, etc. Sometimes, we even collect "track". (to run our MRR collection on...🙄 … [Read more...]
New TV series
Well, it seems I've been in a writing mood today. So, this last one is going to be quite short. If you like science fiction with your tv shows, then try out "Humans." Awesome premise, causing some very profound thinking about our future with "robots". If you have already seen this series or start watching it, I would enjoy reading your thoughts on it. I want to say more, but can't find the … [Read more...]
Wise words when deciding whether to post or not on social media
Here are some wise words from a fellow blogger when posting on social media: "I type out roughly 10 Facebook statuses a day... Normally about 2 make the cut. I always ask myself: Is it encouraging? Is it helpful? Is it loving? Is it going to fix something? Is it hilarious? It has to hit 4/5 to make the cut. If it doesn't - it's a no go. We need to think before we post. It's real people … [Read more...]
Bobby Fischer Movie
Watched a pretty good biographical movie tonight: "Pawn Sacrifice", staring Tobey Maguire as a young Bobby Fischer (chess champion in the '60s and '70s). Tobey does a great job at portraying Mr. Fischer. The movie starts with us seeing him as a 6 yr old chess prodigy, thru his teenage and young adult years, and finishes with the infamous 1972 Fischer/Boris Spassky championship match in Iceland, … [Read more...]
Model Railroading thoughts
I'm mostly what's called an "Armchair" Model Railroader. Been one since 1973 when I was just fourteen years old, with my first purchase of a MRR magazine. That usually means I read the various hobbyist books and magazines but do not actually "build" things. Well, that's not 100% true in my case, since I've built ~8 buildings ("structures" in MRR terminology) from various model kits the last few … [Read more...]
