Fav Blogger in the hospital

I’ve been following my most favorite blogger/writer for a couple of years now. She’s such a hoot with her writing. You may have read some of her posts that I’ve shared with you during these past couple of years. I’ve learned that Susan Hipkins DeBow has been in the hospital for the last couple of days. It sounds heart related (“afib”). If my FB friends could keep her in mind, it would be greatly … [Read more...]

Not able to sleep

Insomnia, insomnia, go away, come back, another day. [woke up, probably around 3:30 - 4am, probably will get tired/sleepy again right before the time when I need to start getting ready for work] 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️⚰️ … [Read more...]

Movie – “The Post”

I don’t go to the movie theater as often as I used to. When I was in my twenties, I would go probably twice a month. In my thirties and forties, it became once a month. Now, in my fifties, I only go once in a blue moon (3-4 times a year). This could be due to a vast number of reasons, so we won’t go there, since that in, of itself, would detract from this post. However, exactly because I don’t … [Read more...]

Bedroom lamps

Ok, in order to tell you tonight’s story, I have to fess up to something. Yesterday was the second “day one” of the 21 day new habit challenge (for me to kick the FB habit). I made it thru all (ok, most) of yesterday without getting onto FB. I believe I used it on the bus in the morning, but I did not get on the blasted thing last night, not one iota. Thereby freeing up dozens, if not hundreds, … [Read more...]

Facebook challenge – 21 days for a new habit to “take”

A former Unisys colleague of mine, posted something either last night or this morning, about it taking 21 days for a new habit to take hold. Sometime on the way home on the bus, I think, I was thinking to myself, self, let’s give this 21 day habit thing a try. “Let’s stay off FB for the next 21 days”, I said. I’m not going to tell you how many minutes I’ve spent scrolling tonight since I’ve … [Read more...]

Laugh of the day – Spookytown

Brian to his best friend: "Hey, I collect a lot of Lemax SpookyTown stuff, but it could be worse. I could be addicted to heroin instead.” Best friend: "At least you could get help with the heroin.” ==== [I stole this, this is not my joke.] … [Read more...]

stuff to do, and motivation

Lots of stuff to do today (just the normal stuff people do on the weekends). Lots of energy and motivation when I first got up. Two hours later: Kitchen cleaned - check Laundry done (17 loads - lol) - check Bathrooms cleaned - check Rooms vacuumed... Uh... I now hear a (tiny, whiny) voice, coming from the ether: “Isn’t it time for a nap?” [Don’t do it, Brian - “it’s a trap!”] MLIA (My life … [Read more...]

Fargo – Season 1

Ok, I’ll make a confession: I’ve never seen “Fargo” the movie. Sure, I’ve seen a few scenes from it, a trailer or two, but never got around to watching it. I’ve seen a few movies by the Coen Brothers (Barton Fink, “Burn after reading”, “Oh brother, where art thou”) which have always left me scratching my head. On the other hand, while looking up their film making history just now, I’m quite … [Read more...]

Bus, make-up, etc.

Person next to me on the bus is putting on their makeup. [I have to admit, this is probably only the second time in about a year, so it’s not that bad.] But, I mean, if I’m able to put on my eyeliner, eye shadow and lipstick at home in the morning, they should be able to complete their makeup routine too, BEFORE getting on the stupid bus! Lol. No one was hurt during this PSA (but I did … [Read more...]

Random thoughts, waking early, 5am

Not entirely sure if I went to bed “early” last night. I know it was a little earlier than my usual midnight, one AM turning off the light. For some reason earlier in the evening, I had a hankering to watch IronMan (the first one). So, I search the various content providers and found it, started to watch it. Since I’ve seen it a dozen times, around the scene when Obadiah Stane is over at Tony’s … [Read more...]

bus ride home, new clothes

Six thirty, on the bus home, passing over the MN River (just South of MOA, just before the Eagan Outlet Mall), it’s darker than all heck out there, and it’s raining. Another 15 mins until the bus station. All is good. Except. I’d bought myself a few new dress shirts a couple weeks ago, wore one of them today. Definitely the wrong size. Glad I didn’t open the others, I can at least take those … [Read more...]

Rainstorm, umbrellas, etc.

Sometime last week (Wednesday?) we had a huge rainstorm as I was leaving the office. Fortunately, I had my umbrella in my backpack, no big deal, for the four city block walk to the bus stop. Except, it wasn’t just a rainstorm, it was also a windstorm, and by the time I got to the bus stop I was soaked, and in addition, the wind had broken my umbrella 💨🌬💨😱😱 Now a smart person would have gone and … [Read more...]

positive person, positive outlook

You know, I truly believe, for the most part, I try to be a positive person, in my personal life, as well as my professional life at work, and, with my blogging (yes, we all know I have a burr up my butt regarding one particular topic), but, in general, I believe I’m an optimistic, positive type of person. So, with that in mind, let me say this, if I don’t say it often enough: It’s a great time … [Read more...]

Someone else’s post about M&Ms

Whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m … [Read more...]

Someone else’s post about sexual assaults – men vs. women

Read.this.now. ======== Guys ask why women are so pissed off. Even guys with wives and daughters. Jackson Katz, a prominent social researcher, illustrates why. He's done it with hundreds of audiences: "I draw a line down the middle of a chalkboard, sketching a male symbol on one side and a female symbol on the other. Then I ask just the men: What steps do you guys take, on a daily basis, to … [Read more...]

SMH – TN high school athletic director video about girls

From an article in USA Today. I just do not know what to say. Shaking my head. ==== Jared Hensley, the athletic director and assistant principal at Soddy-Daisy High near Chattanooga, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday afternoon, soon after he said girls "pretty much ruin everything' in a video he had made for the student body. In a Wednesday morning video address to students called "A … [Read more...]

TV Show – Black Mirror – Star Trek Episode

A few years ago I tried to watch the tv show “Black Mirror”. The first 2-3 episodes of the first season weren’t my cup of tea, and I moved on. At the time I think one or two of you out there suggested I keep watching, and/or recommended this show to me at some point. Its kinda like “Amazing Stories”, the Amblin Entertainment/Spielberg show from the ‘80s (which I was a fan of, way back then), with … [Read more...]

Reading glasses

Before my eye surgeries ~two yrs ago, I wore glasses for, let’s say, close to fifty years. Over those ~fifty yrs, I religiously cleaned them at least each and every morning using “glass cleaner”. I absolutely hated trying to see through smudged fingerprints, or a greasy film buildup. Now, having to just wear a pair of cheaters while reading, my OCDness has receded into the background, and I’m … [Read more...]
