Second to last class session today. Working with classmates on group project tomorrow afternoon, and again next weekend each time for a few hours. Then, 5/18 is final class, 30 min presentation for group project, 2 homework assignments due AND the final exam. Group project is 25% of final grade and I think final exam is 35%. Registered for two classes in the fall, and will make final decision in Aug whether I go with both or just one of them.
We had a surprise visitor today, another professor informing our class of a new class being taught in the fall, “Global Software Development”, 16 U/ST students and 16 students *in* Germany, meeting Saturday mornings, via tele/video conference, a team 4 U/ST students and 4 German students (and a 2nd team of the other 4 U/ST and 4 German) will create two sets of requirements – specs during first 1/2 of the semester to give to the other team to actually design/build the application during the 2nd half of the semester. (I’ve simplified this – since my version only involves 16 people – just double the # of teams). Anyway, the objective is for U/ST students to work (develop software) with students geographically overseas/abroad, of course, dealing with a greater time zone shift, and, perhaps, language barrier or cultural differences, etc. anyway, this sounds like it would be fun, challenging, and quite interesting. May have to de-register from the ‘aforementioned’ classes I just registered for, and take this one instead. [I’ve already had some experience w/this with Preeti Rao during my last full yr at Unisys & w/Indira Prassad & Preetham Subbarao my last 2-3 months there as well, which I greatly enjoyed].
