Wikipedia is my downfall. My interest in learning is my downfall. Case in point: I started to read the latest John Sandford murder mystery a few days ago. Usually his stories are based in and around the Twin Cities since that is where he’s from. This book, though, follows his protagonist to Washington, D.C.
I get distracted by something the author mentions regarding D.C., and there I go, down the rabbit hole of Wikipedia – first, reading the article on D.C. itself, then an article on “Foggy Bottom”, then an article on “the pentagon”, etc.
Finally, I get back to the book. And, again it mentions something about a rare musical instrument called an “Oud”; I’d never heard of that instrument, so off I go onto Wikipedia again.
Methinks it’s partly due to reading the book via the kindle app on the iPad – which allows me to “multitask” and bring up Wikipedia whenever I am curious about something I had just read.
So, “from now on”, I’m going to try to read my books on my kindle DEVICE, rather than on the iPad. That may slow me from moving back and forth between my reading for entertainment vs. reading for education – since it usually only takes me a few days to finish a Sandford mystery, and tonight I only read “ten” pages of mystery vs. “50” Wikipedia articles (yes, I’m exaggerating, mom).
Now, back to Lucas Davenport, etc.
