My 2nd ToastMasters speech was today. Overall, I did a pretty good job, but still “read” too much of the speech, instead of just “speaking” to the audience, but this “speaking” will (hopefully) come with more practice.
People commented on how passionate I was with the topic, as well as how i provided vivid descriptions for them to visualize what i was trying to convey. I also spoke about 90 secs longer than the upper time limit (8.5 mins vs 5 to 7 mins), and sometimes put my hands in my pockets…but all/most of them mentioned my having good eye contact…need to slow down to smooth out my delivery.
By the way, the speech I posted last night, was intended to be the version I was going to give, but based on last minute feedback from “they who perceive themselves to be an orator”, I removed. some of the non-important fluff and then added additional personalization and “adjectives” (which probably helped garner me the “vivid description / passionate” comments from today’s audience).
Not sure what the next TM speech “assignment” will be, but can’t wait until I deliver my third speech in Aug/Sept!
