Part 2: Year long software development project finally goes “Live”

[It’s really too bad I didn’t really do any of the design nor programming on this project – I would have tried, at least, to make it a bit less complex than it currently is].

Anyway, after working on a particular software development project at <current employer> since January, 2013, it finally went live this past week, of all things, on April 1st.

If you visit your local post office, and the APC (automated postal center) kiosk or the (POS) point of sale machines behind the clerk’s area are down or broken or waiting for parts, you can blame me since it’s “my” system that does the critical parts ordering for that equipment.

I want you to know, although I didn’t design the system nor did I even developed the majority of it, I was the smuck (read: new guy on the team) picked to implement it into production (since the original first two developers quit due to the project being postponed for a yr, back in 2012), I guarantee my work and will offer a refund to each and every one of you if you run into a situation where you can’t ship your packages due to broken APC/POS equipment, just call 1-800-BSW-FIAT (Brian’s Software, Will fix it again, Tomorrow).

A Shout-Out to NH – who became the first and only project manager on this project this past December – if it weren’t for him, we would still be in “Customer Acceptance Test” phase. Same for the team’s new team lead (RN), and new mgr (RJ), both of you really helped these last 4 months – it was getting to be quite a drag working for who didn’t know anything about team mgmt, nor project mgmt and didn’t have any clue about software development.  I would like everyone here to know how great it is, working with people like you who motivate their employees, who exude energy and excite their team, really listen and give help when help is needed. Thank you Neil, Rick, Rachel, you’re awesome!
