Had a 45 minute Interview at U/ST, with a VP/Technology at UnitedHealthGroup (Optum div.) this morning. Very very smart gentleman – felt at ease with him and the majority of the time was able to directly answer his questions without any hemming/hawing. Only one question stumped me…
I didn’t ask how many openings there were, but it seemed that this was for more than just one position, since the job description indicated there were openings in 6 different areas [application engineering, business/systems analysis, data mgmt, information security, datacenter infrastructure, and project mgmt], I felt that this was just an initial interview, and there may be a second one coming up (assuming I made it thru this round).
I felt with my IT background/experience, I could fit into 4 of those areas, but he wanted to know where I saw myself fitting in, and I indicated business/systems analysis, so the interview centered around those types of questions. He understood my entire career was as a technologist, and questioned whether I could flip the switch to become a BA (bus. Analyst). I assured him that my work experience as a developer informally included systems analysis as well, and that my Master degree program’s emphasis was on business/systems analysis.
I’m pretty sure I made a good impression and hopefully will get another call soon.
