Had my first class session for both of my two evening courses this week: SW Architecture was on Monday, and Advanced web app development was tonight.
Since I’m also taking a Saturday class (which is a required class), and not wanting to take 3 classes at a time, I must decide on which evening class to “drop”. [the plan has always been to only take two classes this semester].
The SW Architecture class is being taught by someone who’s very intelligent and very enthusiastic – I think I would really like learning from this guy – he’s on a personality/teaching par with Ali, my instructor I had a yr ago for SW process/project mgmt, whom I still feel is the best instructor in the 7 courses I’ve taken thus far. Arun Betcha is this gentleman’s name, and he has one of the best written LinkedIn profiles I’ve seen. Unfortunately, I think I’m going to pass on this class (but will take it later on – the plan is to continue taking classes even after fulfilling the requirements for the degree program I’m in), and will go with the Adv Web App Dev class. The SW Architecture class is at a more higher level perspective and will be a good way to “bring everything that I’ve learned so far all together” (according to Arun).
The Adv Web App Dev instructor also seems to know what he’s doing as well, but in this case, I can immediately put to good use the ‘stuff” I’ll be learning, to hopefully help with pursuing my new career in Web App development (at least I’m hoping to move into this area). Besides, it’s just learning more programming (just learning new/different tools/languages), and how could anyone NOT want to continue learning how to program “computers”?? LOL.
I still feel (and have always felt) fortunate to have found something I love to do (way back in 9th/10th grade) and get paid (“good money”) for doing something I would do for free. I think most of you that have worked with me, know how passionate I am about SW development (I certainly know it’s not for everybody). Even after thirty or more yrs, I still love working in my chosen field – a lot has changed in those yrs, and I know it’ll keep changing – maybe that’s why I love it so much.
Ok, time to call it a night. Going to see MN Orchestra play Dvorak’s Symphony #9 (“From the new world”) tomorrow at 11am. Another of my favs (I’ve got lots of them!).
