First, it’s taken me three yrs to figure out I should be using this blog to also record what I’m changing on this website – it’s a great way to document all the changes I make. i.e., post an update any time I make changes to the website, like what I’m doing here, documenting the changes I made tonight. Geez, not sure why I didn’t think of this before – actually I did, because I created a topic/category called “website/blogging”, which I think was intended to do just this, but I only used it a couple of times, then forget my intentions with that topic. ARGH.
Added my cell phone pictures into the “media library”. Tried to change the “technology shelf” to then use those pictures, but it’s coming out funny – might have something to do with me not using the right thumbnail URL for each new pic. Gonna investigate that tomorrow.
Added pics of Elyse into the media library as well. Changed my “about big-b” page, and added in several pictures such as 2 pics for MRR, one pic of Elyse and placed it next to the paragraph regarding her, resized and changed the location of Lailah’s pic to be next to the paragraph about Lailah. Added in a “teletype” pic next to the career/programming paragraph. Also added a pic of horseshoe drive, as viewed from the boat, placing it next to the “view of the shore” explanation.
Oh, and noticed a new “FAQ” embedded feature, and created several FAQ questions (coming from my original FAQ page). Then, added the new “FAQ archive” as a menu item on the right header menus, under “About Big B”, and then, added sub-menus to that menu (“FAQ archive”), showing all 4-5 FAQ questions. Then, removed the old embedded link to my old FAQ page inside of the “about big-b” page, and replaced it with a link to the new “FAQ archive”. The new FAQ thing is really nice, but after each new FAQ, I’m gonna have to remember to update that top level menu (“about big b”, “FAQ archive”), with new sub-menu(s).
I think that’s it – wish I could have gotten the technology shelf working – I finally took pics of my cell phones a few months ago, but never loaded them to here, and now I have, but it doesn’t work. I just might create a new “technology” page itself, and then add the photos onto that new page. We’ll see.
p.s., I can thank Pam G. for this – she was the only one that read or commented on my recent FB status update regarding my playing around with my WP beta site, and she indicated she didn’t know about my having a blog, so I then had to fix some stuff up…still got a lot to do, but thanks, Pam! LOL. Not sure if she’s even going to look at my blog, but it’s better safe than sorry.
There are a couple of new WP features called “projects”, and “portfolios”, which I’ve added stuff (“records”) to some time this past yr, but not “called them out” on a specific web page, or maybe I haven’t, either of which means, I still need to add “projects”, or “portfolio” as menus items some place on the right header navigation area. Projects are like, the various websites (wet-world for Tom’s fish store, Cyril Thomas’s, one for the MRR club, and another for the USPS Toasmaster’s club – none of these will ever be created, other than “wet-world”) I’d planning on creating, the smug mug effort, etc.
