Gay marriage – my thoughts

A former HS female friend today posted a comment along the lines of “Why is America encouraging sodomy?” [If I remember correctly, I believe her husband is a church pastor and they are currently doing missionary work overseas.]

A different FB female friend – a former work colleague and someone apparently religious enough that they would openly read their bible at work when they weren’t busy – a couple of days ago posted a picture of a wedding ring, and some words to the affect of “marriage is ONLY for people of the opposite sex”.

Both of these two FB friend’s postings have now led me to share the following posting of a female friend of mine who wrote:

“The Supreme Court ruled yesterday on Same Sex Marriage. Today I woke up still married to Kevin. We still love each other just as much today as we did yesterday. I don’t feel that my marriage is threatened. I don’t feel that the sanctity of my marriage had been lessened. People need to get a grip. We have more important issues to worry about. When you are sitting in church tomorrow, instead of saying prayers against same sex marriage, say a prayer for those who really need prayers. For example, the child who is being abused on a daily basis by people who are supposed to love and protect him. How about saying a prayer for people in other Countries who don’t have clean water, food, clothing or medicines to heal their sick children. Say a prayer for all the women and young girls who are used as sex slaves and are being abused and oppressed in the name of religion. While you’re at it say a prayer for yourself that you will find it in your christian heart to just accept people for who they are.”

She then wrote: “Anyone who wants to unfriend me because of this post, go ahead. Please don’t be cowardly about it and do it anonimously. Let me know who you are so I can avoid you in person also.”

Let me be crystal clear: This is my view as well.

In addition, if you are a Christian, you should try to be more accepting of people who just happen to be attracted to their own sex – everyone should be allowed to love whomever they choose to love, and to marry whomever they want to love, and to live with whomever they want to enjoy life with, and to raise children together. If you are truly a Christian, you should try to be accepting of them (if you’re unable to love them), and certainly try not to hate them.

Enough said.
