You are here: Home / Career / Post Unisys / Finally employed again!

Aug 02 2016

Finally employed again!

So here is the (new job) scoop:

My recruiter at the contract agency called around noon today, saying I got the (contract-to-hire) job at Thrivent Financial.

Yea!

Of course there was a sticking point, which we then worked out without further issue.

She then called back (a couple of hours later) letting me know the start date is 8/15.

When I was first contacted about this position), the job was to be in Appleton, WI, for the entire length of the length of the contract (6 months).

However, during our third (or was it the fourth?) call at 4pm, she told me “Thrivent is ok” with me coming out to Appleton for just the first week(!), and then working in their downtown MPLS headquarters (the building pictured in my cover/profile photos) for the rest of the contract.

I’m not going to get my hopes up about that, until I actually hear it from the people at Thrivent – while I believe my recruiter, I just am adopting a wait and see attitude.

One thing about this position, it’s contract-to-hire, meaning I could (finally – in February) be getting a perm employment position. After working as a contractor since 2010, I’m looking forward (hopefully) to be a permanent employee again.

Regarding working here locally (downtown):

First, when I worked for Wells Fargo downtown in 2010/2011, I absolutely loved it, and really, really wanted another opportunity to work downtown again.

Second, not working in Appleton eliminates all my out-of-pocket expenses since I don’t have to incur the cost of extended stay lodging (or the extra expense of driving there [300 miles] every other week).

Lastly, working here, of course, allows me to still see Lailah as often as we’ve been doing this past year. Working in Appleton might have made our visits less frequent.

For that, I’m very glad.

Life is truly good.

(As most of you may remember, I quit USPS almost two years ago (Sept., 2014) to give myself a short break from working (I was burnt out by USPS), as well as to allow me to finish the masters program a semester or two earlier than if I hadn’t taken the time off. The intention was to get back to work by this spring (actually, last winter). Took a few (OK, several) months longer than I thought it would take. But, that is life.)

Thank you, everyone for your support, love, encouragement during these last several months.

You all Rock!

BigB.
