Memory of first Target Greatland

Lump on a couch tonight. But here is a short story for you, before I turn on Season two of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon Prime).

I went to the newly remodeled Tar’get tonight after work for the first time since its reopening (of a few months ago). The store went from being a “Target Greatland” size, to a “Super Target” size. We actually have two Targets in AV, the one furthest from me (already a “Super Target, since it’s roughly only five to ten years old), is on the tri-border of AV, Lakeville, and Rosemount. The other one, the one I usually go to (the one that just got remodeled) was one of the very first Target Greatlands (ever), and I remember it opening in 1991.

The story behind this very distinct memory, is due to the fact, that I was engaged to be married at the time (living together with my fiancé – OMG), and living in the Northern suburbs of Roseville, and the opening of the very first Target Greatland (at least in MN) was such a big deal, myself, my fiancé (Gail), my best friend Rick, and Gail’s best friend Mary drove twenty five miles from the Northern suburbs down to the Southern suburb of Apple Valley to attend “The Grand Opening”. Beautiful Downtown Apple Valley, back in 1991, wasn’t very beautiful, nor did it have a “Downtown”, it was mostly surrounded by farmland, lots of farmland. All four of us were very impressed by it. 😉

I actually don’t remember much anything else, other than Cedar Avenue being this really, really, really wide street, and the store was the only thing on Cedar, albeit several hundred feet from the road. There was nothing else around – at that time.

So, sometime this past spring, they started remodeling it. And I stayed away. Either getting my groceries by Amazon Prime, or via Shipt. Occasionally I would venture to Cub Foods across from this Target. I’ve come to not like Cub, who knows why.

Getting off the bus tonight, I knew I didn’t have stuff in the fridge for dinner, or refreshments, etc. Although I am loath to go ANYWHERE after getting off the bus, at zero dark thirty (i.e., ~6-6:30pm), I forced myself to go to this Target since it’s on my way home from the transit station, and I really needed something to wet my whistle.

I have to say, they did a pretty good job, the fresh fruit/vegetables section was at least doubled in size, the aisles were made a lot wider (you could fit a bus in them!), and it just looked a ton better.

Not entirely sure why I’ve been avoiding this new store, but I’m glad finally made the time to visit it.

I hear dinner calling my name. Stuffed pork chops, asparagus, new potatoes, and a Cesar salad.

No, not really.

[thats tomorrow night]

One day left this week (at work). That’s a good thing.

Can you tell I’m running out of steam?

Who, besides me watched the funeral on Wednesday? A guy across my cube aisle had it on at work, with the sound off, so the entire aisle was watching various parts of it. I’m gonna have to rewatch the eulogies again (this time with the sound on).

Hope everything is going good for you – 18 days until Christmas. The young kid (Reece’s age) next to me at work insists I’m a Scrooge for not having my tree up yet. I told him I’m getting it this weekend, none of this, getting the tree bought and decorated on Black Friday for me!! Lol
