Tonight, we finished Baker’s Produce. We built the clerestory, gluing the four walls, adding the six windows, and gluing a tarpaper roof onto it. The building of the clerestory was a pain since I wrongly assumed both of the longer walls were of equal height. But due to the slight slant of the roof, one wall is slightly shorter than the other (and, I had to do a do over while gluing the walls of the clerestory). We added all of the roof trim along each roof edge of the two main structures. Installed three exhaust vents, the awning above the barn doors of the main building, stained the barn doors, and glued them on.
Built the main building dock, and attached a set of stairs to it. Weathered and glued on a few adverts/signs. Added the sliding access door to the second level of the smaller (left side) building, as well as a platform to stand on when using the pulley/crane mechanism to pull up heavy goods.
Painted/stained/weathered a few detail parts and glued them onto the sides of the building – a kerosene tank, a trash can, some boxes/crates, and a dolly with bags of flour stacked on it – not sure why flour is needed at a Produce Supply, but Mr. Baker insisted it was needed on the dock, for the photo shoot. We also added a bit more weathering to the roof tops – notice the bird droppings?
I’m thinking this project took 4-5 evenings of effort to build this set of two structures. This was a pretty fun build, learned some new things, and also worked with corrugated metal panels for the first time, for the transition section’s siding and roof. I think this was the very first dock I built.
